Working on a song this morning and what I usually do after I get some shape to the song is I start working on turnarounds.
I like turn arounds and introductions because I want a complete song when I play it in front of people. They also focus my energy on the "feel" of the song, where it would like to go.
It's important to me that my song be pretty fully realized, not just frayed at the edges not just drifting off on a chord at the end or starting with a strum at the beginning (unless that serves the song). I need to feel my composition is complete before I present it to the public.
Would you introduce your children, dressed in rags, to a stranger?
